Hanoi - Tran Quoc Pagoda
From inscription to Tran Quoc Pagoda:
It’s the oldest of all pagoda in Hanoi.
The pagoda was constructed in the 6th century during the reign of King Ly
Nam Da and was then named Khai Quoc which means “founding the country”.
It was first built outside the Yen Phu dyks, then moved inside the dyks, to
a peninsula on the West Lake. It has been named An Quoc, Tran Quoc and Tran
Bac. With an architecture in harmony with nature, the Pagoda creates a beautiful
scenery on the Lake. The famous Buddhist Pagoda is situated by the Thanh Nien
Road, Yen Phu Ward, Tay Ho district.
The existing architectural buildings were retained from the last repair work
in 1815, including the triple gate, the main pagoda, the sitting room, the
ancestor monks worshipping chamber and the tower garden. All these constructions
were lying on a small peninsula mirroring themselves in the dazzling beautiful
West Lake.
