Chiang Saen Market

We went to Chiang Saen Market on our last day at the Anantara at the Golden Triangle as part of a half-day cooking class at the resort. We were their first students and we had a blast cooking 3 Northern Thai dishes. Kathie wrote something up for the Thorn Tree site, I will include here because she describes the experience very well.

"The Anantara has a cooking school, which is a delight. The
facilities are excellent, with a cooking station for the chef and four
individual cooking stations for the students. The cooking class each day begins with
a trip to the market at Chiang Sean. I always enjoy markets, and it was
great to go to the market with the chef, who could answer all of our questions
about the various foodstuffs there. We have excellent Asian markets here in
Seattle, and I’m now much more knowledgeable about the various products. Upon
return from the market, you observe the chef creating several dishes. There is
lots of opportunity to ask questions. Next, you go to your own cooking station
and create the dishes with assistance as needed from the chef. You finish
with a lovely lunch of your creations. Each class is a little over a half a
day. There are seven classes, each with a theme. We took the class on Northern
Thai cooking.

We were the first people to take a cooking class, so we had lots of extra
attention, as the manager and many others came in to observe our class and to
make sure things were running smoothly."
