In Phaw Khone - Weaving Village |
Inle Lake, Myanmar (Burma) |
| From Kathie's Fodors report: "Our last stop for the morning was In Phaw Khone, a silk-weaving village in stilted houses over the lake. The silk weavers are fun to watch, doing such fine work on looms made of bamboo and often lashed together with rope. The weights consist of stones in large metal cans. The unique product here is lotus fiber. By breaking the stems of lotus, a fine fiber can be pulled out. The fiber is spun into thread, which can then be woven with silk to make shawls or scarves." |
