| Little is known and written about this old teak monastery, but it's generally agreed upon that it's the oldest teak monastery in Myanmar, built around 200 years ago. It's not in the guidebooks, but tourists do make their way here as evidenced by all the children trying to get kyat for the US dollars received for souvenirs. Dollars are very difficult, if not impossible, to change into kyat and because the denominations are so small, they'll get a tiny fraction of what someone turning in a crisp new $100 bill would get. I wish we'd known, we would have carried much more kyat to give them the best exchange rates. We did what we could, though, with what we had. |
