This temple, built by the King Kyaswa in mid 11th century, was never completed, however because of this it gives the viewer a rare glimpse into the study of Late Pagan building techniques. King Kyaswa was remembered for being the ideal Buddhist monarch. From Paul Strachen's Pagan: Art and Architecture, "In 1249 he issued an edict that was to be put up, carved on stone, in every village of more than fifty houses in the empire [reading] Kings of the past punished thieves by divers torture starting with impaling. I desire no such destruction. I consider all beings as my own children and with compassion to all I speak these words.."
