| Pathtothamya was named for all the small stupas on each parapet. Pahto means stupa. This temple (or guphaya) was destroyed during the 1975 earthquake and has been restored by the Bagan Dept. of Archaeology by re-joining and renovating the fallen structure. It was originally built in the 10th century by either King Saw Lu or King Kyansittha. UNESCO has since begun cleaning the stucco walls to reveal the wall paintings. You can see this in a couple of the pictures where it's evident where the wall was cleaned. |
