Kakku Pagodas - Near Inle |
Myanmar (Burma) |
| From Kathie's Fodors report: "Kakku is a group of nearly 2500 stupas in an area that has only been open to tourists since about 2000. It is in Pa-O lands, so an admission fee of US$3 per person plus $5 for a Pa-O guide is required. This is arranged at an office in Taunggyi. Our Pa-O guide was excellent. As we drove through small villages, she talked with us about the Pa-O people. We were able to see people as they went about their daily lives and ask her about what we were observing. "The initial sight of the stupas at Kakku is dramatic. There, amidst the rolling fields is a forest of stupas. As you approach the site on foot, you hear the tinkling of the bells from the hundreds of “umbrellas” atop the stupas. It's very atmospheric." |
