Phaung Daw Oo Paya - Golden Boat

This is the holiest religioius site in Southern Shan state. Four ancient Buddha images are buried under gold leaf applied by devotees. We watched as people added more when we were there. The Golden boats (or barges shaped like a hintha bird (the symbol of Myanmar) are taken out during the annual Phaung Daw Oo festival when these images are paraded around the lake.
