| This is the only "new" temple we visited, it's a renovation of a temple built by King Kyansittha in the 11th century. Long ago, the temple roof collapsed in filling the temple with debris. It was recently renovated with money donated by Venerable Shi Fa Zhao, Mahasaddhammajotikadhaja, the presiding Abbot of the Golden Pagoda Buddhist Temple in Singapore. The standing figure of Lokanattha which was on the left side of the Buddha was unearthed during restoration (seen in the 4th picture). Also notable is the nativity scene depicting Buddha's mother and sister with the Buddha to the left of his mother pointing to the heavens, proclaiming his greatness. |
