Located in the Bangkok suburb of Bangkapi, this privately owned museum is not to be missed. Prasart Museum is a centre for education and research for those interested in Thai antiquities. The museum houses a vast collection of antiques from the prehistoric to the Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin eras. Various styles of Thai architecture are on display, including a replica of the Red Palace, housed in the National Museum. The garden contains several Sukhothai period terra cotta pieces, complimenting the setting of rare Thai and foreign plants. (reprinted from Yahoo travel)
We hired Julie taxi to drive us out to the museum. It's about a 45 minute drive outside of Bangkok if you take the expressway. Our guide Peter was very well informed and gave us an excellent tour of the grounds. The admission is 500 bhat. The only way to experience the museum is to book a private tour in advance. Only one party at a time can tour the museum. We spent 4 hours there and learned a great deal about Thai antiquities. At the end of our tour we met Khun Prasart. The grounds of the estate house his home and the museum.
